Does anyone have ANY clue why they put hot water tanks in the attic in some houses? As a homeowner, I really have to question who comes up with some of these design decisions. If you own your own home, you should probably be questioning it too. Hot water heater leaks, particularly from heaters in an attic, can be VERY devastating. As a water damage expert, I probably need to thank them.
Check Your Water Heater Regularly
When water starts leaking from a water heater in an attic, it can go unnoticed for quite a while. A little overflow from the pan and it doesn’t make much of an impression. It will likely run between the joists and spread out a bit, maybe finding an exit into a wall area adding to the fun. It will undoubtedly soak into the insulation. By the time you see that leak, you can be pretty well assured that you are going to have a big problem.
